You’re looking for some healthy late night snacks, because you often feel hungry and make it difficult for you to sleep.
You may don’t eat dinner at all because of busy day, traffic jams, too tired to cook, etc.
Now, the stomach doesn’t stop growling at night when you are trying to sleep. You know that you are really starving and must have something to eat.
Rather than eat one plate portion of food, which can make you become too full at bedtime.
Late night snacking is a better choice.
There are several good reasons for that, such as:
1. It is easy to serve. For example you may only need to prepare a glass of hot water.
2. Snacks have many variations. Surely you will find one that suits you well.
3. Snacking the right food can make you sleep soundly.
“Snacking at night will make you fat”
I often hear that phrase, but that is not entirely true.
Evening snacks should be low in calories, healthy and can be easily digested by the body. Fruits are an absolute example of that.
Avoid high-calorie foods like pizza, burgers, fried chicken, etc. as your late night snack. It makes you too full, becomes difficult when trying to sleep and also has a high potential to make you fat.
Here are some late night snacks that are suitable for your situation:
Pre-prepared Healthy Late Night Snacks
At night most people tend to not want to do anything, including cooking. If you think so, then choose pre-prepared snacks.
You can prepare these snacks in a fridge or beside your bed. When you feel hungry, you just take it, eat some of it and go back to sleep. As simple as that.
However, I do not recommend you to snack on the bed, because it can make your bed dirty.
A few pieces of biscuits will be your savior when starving at late night. Besides being easy to find in many stores, the prices are also more affordable than cereals.
If you often feel hungry late at night, it would be nice to prepare a packet of biscuits beside the bed.
So, in case you feel hungry, just open the wrapper and eat a few pieces of biscuit to beat hunger. And if you already feel satisfied, you can easily save excess biscuits to eat later without wasting it. Of course, you need to prepare a bottle of water so you don’t choke yourself.
I didn’t find another fruit as practical as a banana for evening snacks.
- It’s filling your stomach, 2 bananas are more than enough
- Easy to peel, no need to bring knives or other tools to your bedroom.
- Easy to store, you can even put it on a table.
- Not a watery fruit, so you don’t have to worry about water droplets on your bed sheet.
3. Diced fresh fruit
Nothing beats a healthy fruit snack.
Some slices of fresh fruits such as apples, melons or pears are the best choice of snacks for late night. Besides being rich in vitamins, the water content in fruits can help meet your daily fluid needs.
If you are a person who likes to eat fruits, maybe you can start preparing a few slices of fresh fruit, like apples in your refrigerator.
4. Fresh vegetables.
If you are a fan of salads, maybe you will love vegetables as healthy late night snacks.
You need some fresh vegetables, like tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, celery or broccoli that you can cut into pieces. For the dip you can use mayonnaise or yogurt.
Some people prefer warm snacks at night. It helps overcome the cold of night and makes it easier for them to sleep.
The only down side is that you will be busy cooking when everyone is asleep. And it might make you feel a little uncomfortable.
Cereals are usually consumed for breakfast, but it that does not mean you can not consume it at night.
A bowl of cereal is high in fiber which makes you feel full fast.
If you don’t like to eat cereal. Do not worry! You will like it in no time.
There are so many kinds of cereals sold in stores today, with different brands, size, flavor and price. You will surely find one that you like.
Since some cereals need a glass of milk. Then you need to consider the amount of cereal that you will put in a bowl. Or you will be too full and find it harder to sleep.
Oatmeal is the right snack for those of you who are running a diet program. Besides making you feel full, oatmeal also helps you lose weight.
3. Omelet / scrambled egg.
I believe almost every house have deposits eggs in their fridge.
It’s easy to cook egg dishes so that anyone who is an adult can do it. Some examples of egg dishes that you can make at night such as omelets, scrambled eggs or boiled eggs.
Choosing the right beverage when snacking can improve the quality of your sleep.
However on the other hand, wrong choices beverages like coffee or black tea can keep you awake all night.
One glass of warm milk at night, will provide the following benefits for you:
- strengthens bones and prevents osteoporosis.
- makes you feel full until morning.
- helps calm your mind, so you can sleep well.
- makes you wake up with great energy and good mood.
Therefore, the combination of milk with cereal is a healthy snack that you should try at home. Not only makes you full and easy to sleep, but also nourishes the body.
If you are worried about fat in milk, then you can choose diet milk or low-fat milk instead.
2. Herbal tea
Late night snacking is more enjoyable if accompanied by a cup of warm tea.
Maybe some of you are afraid to drink tea at night, because of the caffeine content in it. But did you know that drinking tea at night also provides good benefits for body health, such as:
