Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. Like other types of diabetes, gestational diabetes also cause high blood sugar. It can affect your pregnancy and your baby’s health.

If you already have diabetes, then you need to keep your blood sugar as close to normal as possible before get pregnant. High blood sugar levels are not too good to your baby, especially during the first weeks of pregnancy.

   

Even if you have never had diabetes before, but when you have been diagnosed with high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. You have a chance of getting gestational diabetes. So, you also need to control your blood sugar during pregnancy.

There are some clues about what causes gestational diabetes. The hormones in the placenta can block the action of insulin in the mother’s body. This is what the researchers referred to as insulin resistance. Insulin resistance makes the mother’s body can not use insulin. Without it, glucose (blood sugar) can not be change to energy and leaves the blood.

Gestational Diabetes Symptoms

For most women, gestational diabetes does not have any noticeable signs or symptoms. Even, a pregnant woman can live with diabetes without knowing it. If you have gestational diabetes, the symptoms may include:

  • Blurred vision.

  • Cooked vegetables OR plenty of salad PLUS
  • 1 cup cooked pasta/noodles or 2 slices of bread PLUS
  • 1 serve of fruit

Dinner:

  • 1 cup of cooked pasta/noodles or 2/3 cup cooked rice
  • A small serve of lean meat OR tofu with plenty of salad
  • 1 serve of fruit
